What is a demonstration forest, you ask? Demonstration forests are a program of the American Tree Farm System
designed to demonstrate good forest harvest techniques and to teach about forest ecology. A demonstration forest is a
small-scale version of a working forest that demonstrates techniques of forest management. Forest management is usually
practiced over an area of hundreds, or even thousands of acres, which makes understanding of its various aspects difficult
for the occasional visitor.
The NM Tree Farmers and the Forestry Division have collaborated to create six demonstration forests.
Demonstration forests are open to classroom visits, scout troops, and you. Please contact the Forestry District listed with
each demonstration forest to inquire about a visit.
